Just like you might see your Doctor for a routine physical examination, it’s important for every investor’s portfolio to have a periodic check-up. This includes a review of your recent and long-term performance, your risks and objectives, and fees and expenses. If you’re unable to get answers to these straightforward questions or simply not sure if you’re on the right track, it’s probably time to get a second opinion.
Most of our client households have $1 million or more invested with us. Our approach to portfolio management becomes efficient (in most cases) for families with $500,000 in investment assets or more.
For investors with portfolios of value below this level or who reside outside of our market area (and are interested in regular face to face meetings), we have carried out significant due diligence in identifying another financial advisor we are confident in referring.
Essentially, we need a clear understanding of your financial circumstances, objectives and preferences and an accurate account of your current investments. Upon request, we will provide a Confidential Questionnaire for you to complete and return to us along with copies of your recent account statements.
Simply stated, we believe a “pay as you go” or “fee for service” approach is the most transparent and fair way to charge for our services and advice that clearly put our clients’ best interests first.
In addition to the tax advantages presented by this fee arrangement in cash accounts, it eliminates the conflicts of interest we so often find when asked to provide a second opinion for many investors receiving advice in return for a sales commission.
ScotiaMcLeod’s Managed Portfolio Program offers all the benefits of professional portfolio management, plus something that’s really quite rare: the opportunity to work one-on-one with your own personal Portfolio Manager.
ScotiaMcLeod Portfolio Managers and Associate Portfolio Managers are investment professionals of the highest caliber. Each has earned this prestigious designation through a combination of academic achievement and years of experience advising clients on substantial investment assets. In addition, each has passed the rigorous application and review process of the ScotiaMcLeod Selection Committee.
As an Associate Portfolio Manager, Chris Carter invests tremendous time and expertise to first understand a client’s financial and lifestyle priorities and then designs a documented investment policy to guide the portfolio. As called for, he has discretion to execute day-to-day investment transactions on his client’s behalf.
